Developing democracy in our land
We are capable of achieving what other nations can only dream about.
The miraculous 1994 transition from the Apartheid oppressive system to a multiparty constitutional democracy was phenomenal.
New national flag; new national anthem; new inclusive government; new constitution; new progressive laws; new transformational institutions; new inclusive sport, art and cultural bodies and new Reconstruction and Development Programme.
All these projects and others not mentioned gave hope and inspiration to unity for a nation that had a divided bitter past. We all loved and cherished this united in diversity nation. We became a proud nation. We morally were upright, socially intelligent, politically very educated and that was collectively as a rainbow nation. The vision of a united, prosperous and non-racial democratic society drove us to greatest heights as a nation.
In the middle of the second term of our democratic dispensation things started to lose shape. We started to care less about things that made us great as a nation. Industry, honesty, fairness, meritocracy, transparency, accountability, respect for the rule of law, caring and tolerance were part of the life of this great nation of ours. All these have now been replaced by greed and crass materialism, corruption and incompetence, laziness and consumerism, nepotism and leadership ineptitude, cronyism, entitlement, selfishness and obstructionism.
Let's start the journey
Lekgotla for Democracy Advancement stands ready to pioneer the journey to that re-discovery as a nation passionate about its value systems. As a people we shall prevail and that is certain.
